Editorial

I recently returned from the North American Veterinary Conference, which takes place every year in January down in Orlando, FL. There were so many interesting and informative lectures, exhibit halls that covered the area of multiple football fields and the opportunity to network with fellow veterinarians. Many states already have existing continuing education (CE) requirements that veterinarians and veterinary technicians are required to fulfill annually. Legislation in New York has recently been passed, effective January 1, 2011 that requires vets and techs to satisfy CE requirements in order to uphold licensure. Veterinarians will be required to fill 45 hours per 3 year period while veterinary technicians will be filling 24 hours during that same period. Luckily, veterinarians and technicians have the opportunity to attend conferences, seminars, evening lectures and hands on labs, in and out of state to complete these requirements.  The end result benefits everyone- better informed vets give better care to your pets.
